HOPEFULLY I will receive this from my mom by next week. I had to have it shipped to her in Colorado and she is shipping it to me.
I wanted to do the team photo of my 4yr old's soccer team. Is the 10-22mm an appropriate lens to use or should I stick with my 24-70? I want to get as close as possible, but not sure if the 10-22mm would give me too much of a perspective distortion.

Hi-ho,
At the 22mm end it wouldn't be too bad, but at the 10 end there would be way to much distortion for a people photo at the edges of the image.
I'd be sticking to the 24-70 if it was me.
16mm (Equivalent) is real wide, but then you might like distorted kids. :-).
You might get away with it if you get the kids standing in a semi-circle in front of you, to minimize the distortion, but even then you'll get some odd effects I imagine,. The widest I go is 17mm (27 equiv) and even that is too wide for people at the edges of the frame if they're in a group IMHO.

| Also if you get farther away, you might be able to shoot wide open and not have a distracting background behind the people, if there's trees or anything. |

It's too wide for group shots, period. At the 22mm end it will do OK, but stay away from the wide end. Unless, of course, that's the effect you're after...
