Hello!! My husband and I will be travelling to Colorado in early October for a wedding, and I was wondering if anyone out that way wants to get together for a day and do some shooting/hiking stuff.
We'll be near Colorado Springs for the wedding, which is October 7th. Our plan is to take a couple days either before or after the wedding and make a mini-vacation. We'll likely have a rental car, but we aren't familiar with the area and will probably want to stay around the Colorado Springs area.
So, anyone up for it? |

I would suggest a drive up Pike's Peak. Depending on what the weather has been, this can be a good time of year to see aspen turning color. The Garden Of The Gods is an area of intersting red rock formations. |

Excellent!! Both of these things are really close to where we'll be staying, so I'm glad to hear they're worth a few photo ops ;-) |

You will definitely enjoy yourself. It is just late enough to probably have some snow on the mountains, but early enough to still go up high in the mountains to truly appreciate it all. I might be around during that time. All depends. But if I am, I think it would be fun. I have spent some time in the Pike's Peak/Springs area. Just 30 min drive up into the mountains, behind Pikes Peak are some truly magnificent areas. There is a petrified forest park called Florissant. Florissant
And then within 1 hr drive there are some very old mining towns like Cripple Creek that reveal what Colorado was like 100 years ago. It where gold and miners came to stake their claim, literally. Cripple Creek That is near Florissant anyway. There are also some casinos up there if you like that.
If you go past Cripple Creek on a cool highway, you come to amazing vistas and old ruined mills/mines and some views allow you see 50-100 miles until you see the Sangre de Cristo Range which is remarkable. The road is called the Golden Loop. Golden Loop.
Of course, Garden of the Gods, Seven Falls, US Air Force Academy, and Pike's Peak are good too. PM me if you have more questions.
This was taken at Seven Falls. Kinda touristy, but I like it there regardless.

I'll be back in school in Denver and thats only 45 minutes away so I'd be up for meeting wherever. I don't really know a whole lot about the mountains south of Denver but I've got a couple friends down there who might have some other suggestions. |

I'm heading out to that area 9/23-30. I plan on doing Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, Royal Gorge in that area...as well as a bunch of other things farther away. Hope you have a great trip!
