Ok, My initial thoughts are in with regars to the Pantone Huey. **NOTE: I haven't color calibrated before and do not have any references to other products and their software.
The Pantone Huey is actually quite small. Much smaller than anticipated. Its approximatly 3/4 inch wide and 5" long. The device comes with a stand to hold the huey so it can measure ambiant room light.
Ill get right to the beef. I can't really say how accurate the device is itself but I did notice the software may be a limiting factor. The screen in which monitor contrast and brightness is adjusted seems to be too vague. It (too me) would seem it would allow to much variance in settings which could effect dark tones in photos. My second issue is with the Kelvin settings. There are seven settings ( 2 cool, 2 warm, phot/web, games, and vieo editing/viewing) but none of them actually tell you what kelvin you are calibrated too. Which may or maynot be a big deal to many users. I find it a small problem but one I can deal with. One might assume the photo setting would be 6-7K.
I have yet to print a photo after calibration because Im low on ink and have not gotten out to buy more. But when I do I'll updated this post with my thoughts on accuracy.
Im at work now and won't get a chance to reply to this post till sometime this evening but please post any comments or questions you have about this device or my thoughts and Ill try and answer them as concise as possible.

Just to add... I did experiance quite a shift in color after calibration and colors seemed to "pop" more....It made the photos on the site that much better :-)

It doesn't look like something that would be used for colour management. ;)

I just tried this product and it seems to do a fair job for the $ spent. After running the calibration my monitor seems sharper and more balanced. I do like the fact that when left connected it adjusts for the light level in the room. I have a large window that changes the light throughout the day which has always caused me problems and that seems solved. I have not tried it on my laptop as yeet but plan to.
Pantone is a pretty reputable company in the color mangaement area so I can't imagine they would put their name on the product without at least some faith in it.
So my question is, "should I trust it"?

| I have a huey, just bought it last weekend. It calibrated my monitor, but it seems to be on the warmer side, and when I print it with my Canon i850, it's not the same thing I see on screen. Is this normal? When my prints do come out, they look different. But good different. |

After calibrating using the Huey I seem to get a pretty good print that matches my monitor when using my Canon i9900. When I use my Canon i960 printer it seems a bit colder.

Here's a sample pic of a B/W picture I edited with a monitor-calibrated Huey. It looks fine on my monitor, but does it look too dark?

Looks very good on my monitor which is calibrated using Adobe Gamma (software) calibration. |
