Just got back last week from flying to CA to pick up my new camera bag.

This second shot is from the drive back - a place in Nevada called Cathedral Gorge. It was a very interesting place photographicially - maybe I'll post more from this pit stop once I process them.

What a great adventure - the guy I bought the bike from couldn't have been cooler, and racing a giant spring storm all the way back (finally caught me in Wendover) was a wind blown experience. I hope to be ranging all over the western US this summer.

Simply awesome dude, thanks for sharing. I envy you. I've always wanted to tour on a bike.

I wish my camera bag looked like that... Lucky!

Very nice bike and that sounds like an amazing experience on the ride home. I hope to have my own wheels by next year and take a Autumn tour across Canada to Ontario and Quebec for the leaves. Though the photos I see coming out of Nevada are almost tempting enough to justify a trip south.

Simply as an FYI, leaves on the roadway can be a serious hazard. If they interfere with the surface contact between the tires and the road, it can lead to a very hairy stop. Like stopping on ice.

Fall is a great time to ride. Awareness is however key. As it always is when on the road.

Hey, another ST1100 owner! You're going to really enjoy that ride. I've got 120,000 miles on my '95, and it still runs like new. I'm almost regretting that my upcoming trip to AZ (end of this week) will be by car, not by MCYC as has been my tradition, but I've got too much gear to haul this year, LOL.
I've hauled my 10D on the ST on trips to AZ, TX, NY, MN, and Canada. Most fun you can have with a camera bag!

A Givi trunk is definately on my list of add-ons - I'm think the 52 liter monster for lots of gear and maybe a tent and bedroll.

I hadn't even ridden an ST1100 until I got to CA!! I saw one in the local Honda shop driven by the sales manager - he wouldn't let me even start it, so I just sat on it - and it was love at first site.

When I fired it up in CA and took it for a test drive I nearly wept. It was everything I thought it would be, and easier handling.

Maybe we should plan an ST1100 GTG? Pick some state halfway between WI and UT with photographic possibilities - what do you think?

I'm interested in how you carry your gear - you can see in the one photo I came back with a fanny pack strapped onto the passenger seat. Now I can fit it in my saddle bag (now that my socks aren't in there). Is your camera in the trunk? Any additional foam?

Normally I carry the camera gear in one of the side bags. I do pack it carefully and include some extra padding within the bag. I also put a 1" thick chunk of foam underneath the bag.
I have a Givi top box on mine, as you can see. It's been on there continuously for nearly 100k miles; I have had some problems related to it. The bolts on the support bracket under the tail plastic tend to work loose, and I've actually replaced the bracket once due to a crack that developed on the right side. It's also getting harder to keep the bolts tight as things wear.
If you do mount a top box, keep your lighter, bulkier items up there, and heavier stuff in the side bags.
I'd love to take some time and explore Utah and/or Colorado sometime. I've been through on the bike a few times, but had little time to actually explore, so what I've seen has been the stuff on the main routes. My best buddy and I have talked about a Southwest trip (he rides an '04 ST1300). It won't happen this year but very well could happen next year. By that time, I might be on a 1300 too, who knows!
