This does not include exchange of comments where no other exchange of value is involved. Exceptions to this policy, such as for contests, must be approved by Site Council in advance."

Oh well, I've made my mark. ;-)

So now I have to get any "Golden Slippy" contests approved beforehand? I move that I can have a standing pre-approval for all Golden Slippy contests. :-)

This presumes a Golden Slippy actually IS "a thing of value", which is a stretch... :-)

Unrelated, but there's a pass in British Columbia called "Anarchist Pass". I have been trying to find out why, but haven't been able to.

Sidley, a rancher who settled here in the 1800s was made Justice of the Peace and Post Master. The mountain was likely named after Sidley's political philosophy which got him dismissed from his jobs sometime around the turn of the century.

Read above post and see link...Sidley named the mountain and created the post office.

Can we add the cheese photo to rule #7? I think it's beginning to merit some warning...

Well, you're faster than I.

Thank you, Zeus and Chris. I'd seem that link, but I missed the info on his "political philosophy". I was just curious. I love driving that pass.

Site administration is to be commended.

I believe it is very important to have specific, well defined rules for behavior and decorum in the forums...

Otherwise, how else could I violate them? ;)

Furthermore, I feel strongly that all rule 6 violations should result in immediate site dismissal without any petition for grievance.

That's a shame -- kind of kills any sort of photo sharing during a free study or similar challenge, doesn't it? No B&W images during a duotone challenge, nothing containing water during a water challenge.

As with all rules, we will apply common sense to things like free studies and best of challenges. It should be pretty obvious that we don't intend to prohibit all photo posting during those challenges, but we will continue to address any photos which we believe may impact the scores of specific entries.

I understand that, and I am certain you (collective) will do what you feel is in the best interest of the site -- but I feel you have set yourself another task as impossible to accomplish as the major elements clause.

But tell me, was rule #6 the one about staying on topic? :P

Steve, I'm sorry to report that you have been found to be in violation of Rule 6 of the new DPC Forum Rules. As you know, violations of this rule are punishable by account cancellation. Since your actions show a willful desire and reckless abandon in disgregarding this easily interpreted rule, I have no choice but to... heckle you.

Kudos to Landon and the SC! :) Fantastic job, guys. Thank you!

So you've been heckled by someone with less hackle, you say? I don't believe that's possible, sir! ;-)

Since it is somewhat of a change in policy, I just want to make specific mention of rule 2, "please do not discuss specific challenge entries or outtakes until voting has ended."

We've had numerous requests about this. In the past users have posted outtakes which were similar to other users' entries, and this has affected the scores on those entries. In the past we have encouraged people to wait until voting is complete before posting outtakes. This is now formalized as a site policy.

Yes! This one rocks! Thank you guys!

Only Douglas Adams knows the meaning of Rule 6...and he is no longer with us.

Kinda like constantly directing people to the tutorial section.

Perhaps when new members introduce themselves in the forums, instead of showing them a cartoon that says you lick your own butt, you could point them towards the important information. :P

I do point them in that direction AFTER I have shown them the photo. I am just tired of pointing them there. But I guess I can deal with it.

By the way it is not my but it is my balls.

And for those that haven't seen it:

And a big ole' bump. :)

Guys, please remember to use Report Post if someone makes a comment you find objectionable in a discussion.

Remember even if someone throws the first virtual punch, you are still held responsible for your conduct. We are not going to get into the fine details of "He started it, no he did."

As stated in the rules, assume good faith. If you think someone is taking a swing at you, hit report post.

THEN WALK AWAY.

:)

we appreciate everyone's help in making the forums a more fun place to be!

I like rule #7. I know there are images with adult content on here, and that's fine. But this at least gives our little girl (budding photographer) a chance to hide her eyes when we are voting and discussing images together. :)

strewth, bruce! there is noooo number 6. a chorus of the philosphers' song, please...

immanuel kant was a real pissant who was very rarely stable...

i am obvioulsy the product of a badly misspent childhood, with far too much time watching the pythons.

But that's a forum rule, not applicable in challenge entries.
It's meant to be a warning that the thread is about to get raunchy, for those who may not be into that.

How does one cancel membership in this group? I am unable to participate in Challenges due to objection to one rule and see no reason to remain a member.

Try contacting the admins by navigating through the help menu. Out of curiosity, what is it that you object to?

Dodging and burning are not allowed. I started photography in the 60's and still consider these important to decent photos. I do not often shoot anything that can not be improved by dodging and burning. Why show something you consider less than your best? Thanks for the suggestion.

You can dodge and burn in the advanced editing challenges

Um... you don't appear to be a member anyway, so what is it exactly you'd like to cancel? If you don't like the rules for free challenges, then you can simply choose not to participate or join up for the Advanced Challenges.

Your reminder for the day. :)

If you find the content of a thread objectionable we ask that you do two things.

1) Report the Post

2) Use the Ignore feature and walk away from the discussion.

We will not play the "he started it, she started it game". Suspensions can and will be handed out.

:)

Play nice everyone. Assume good faith, and it you can't say something constructive don't say anything at all. Your friendly neighborhood SC appreciates your help. :)
