Hi guys, i'm about to purchase my first digital slr and was wondering if it was worth considering the 20d over the 350. Is the image quality much better? How does the size of the 20d compare; i\'ve held a 350 and found it uncomfortably small, with the addition of a grip i\'d be getting into 20d territory (prices have naturally decreased since the 30d came out) Any advice either way would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks,

Neil

If you have held the 350XT and found it to be small, then I would say go for the 20D. Image quality is the same but the 20D just felt right to me. The 20D is bigger than the 350XT and a little heavier. So I say go for the 20D and you won't regret it. I know I don't!

For me, the 20D feels a lot more comfortable. Its high-ISO performance is a little better. Its AF mechanism is more robust, as is its shutter (rated for 100,000 activations vs 50,000 I believe). In general, it just feels like a better camera to me. I'd certainly choose the 20D over the 350xt w/grip, as the cost difference isn't much.

20D.
Not that 350D is a bad camera but for the size, longer shutter life and the 2 wheel controls. Also some of the functions are "hidden" in the menu in 350D. You have better access to ISO etc.
If money is not an issue 20D.
Good luck.

Yep the others are right. For me, the size was that made me choose 350D, I have small hands and I like lighter constructions. Try to hold both of them in your hand, try both of them before buying.

I just went through the same process as you are going through. I decided on the 20D because of the "feel" of it. No regrets here. I love the 20D.

if you have the option to choose between consumer and prosumer cameras why even consider the consumer ?

I've had the 300D and the 20D now I have the 5D and I want my 20D back.. it's the only camera I miss of all the cameras I've owned in the past.

go for the 20D with grip it's amazing :)

m8 of mine bought a 350 last October, i had a go with it and it felt very small compaired to my 300D..

i love my 20D is the same size as my 300D but feels better in my hands - the 5fps is gr8 for action shooting, i love the fact that the higher ISO are useable unlike with my 300D - sure some were ok, but the high ISO keepers from my 20D are much higher :)

20D FTW!!!!

My boyfriend prefers the size, weight, and feel of the 20D over the XT.
I prefer the XT, though.. he has pretty large hands so it makes sense to me. :)
