Im looking to invest in an external Hard Drive. Right now I am using WindowsXP but plan on purchasing a Mac in the future.
Will I need to reformat the drive before then?
Also, if you ave any experience with external HDs, please throw me a line as I have never dealt with these things before...
Thanks!

Hi Max
It is only possible to read FAT and FAT32 formatted drives in a Macintosh. Do not use NTFS formatted drives in a Macintosh computer.

Do Macs use FAT32 exclusively, or do they have their own file system? |

No Windows can use Fat 32 (Windows 98) etc but Mac's can read drive's which has been formatted in fat 32 - basely it a format that windows and mac can both read .. |

If you format your drive under Windows now and buy a Mac later, I'm pretty sure you will be OK. The Mac OS is pretty good about playing nicely with others in a Windows world so your new Mac will probably recognize the format and contents of the drive with no problem.
As far as buying, watch pages like this for deals on storage. These guys do the work for you, all you have to do is watch daily for the best deals. |
