update on our big tripods and top of the rock
I just got this email from them:
As you've noted, tripods are not allowed at the Top.
However, we understand that you're travelling around the city taking
pictures and may have your tripods with you when you arrive. Whether or
not you can bring the tripods to the Top with you would largely be at
the discretion of the protection officers working our security check.
They may request that you leave your tripods at security for the
duration of your stay.
So its kind of up to us if we want to bring our big tripods, and hopefully they wont bother us so much, but I still will probably bring mine along with my smaller one

I also got this e-mail this afternoon.
Dear Lee,
Sorry to say that we do not allow tripods or monopods on the Observation
Deck.
Thanks for your interest. We hope to see you at the Top soon!

IMHO, it's not worth going up there at twilight to shoot if you can't have a tripod. But of course everyone is safer - LOL. I'll vote with my wallet and keep the money in it. |

I'm still looking forward to the chance to go to the top of the rock.....however, I have some questions.
1. It appears to be a good idea to purchase tickets in advance--has a time been decided?
2. Tickets seem to have 10 minute intervals--has anyone been there to know how the system works? Do you show up any time within your ticketing time, or do we need to be early?
3. Introductory rates end March 31--so tickets seem to be $17.50 for adults.
The tripod issue doesn't bother me. It looks like there will be plenty to see and shoot without one. There will be railings to brace against and the like, I'm sure. |

I've been there before they have 3 lines right before you got to the top, the lines are indicated by which time interval you have but no one reallly checks your ticket to see if you are in the right line so hmm really does not matter which line your in. Just get there a little before our time on our tickets, I'd say 10-15 mins or so
So who here is purchasing there ticket in advance online? and for what time again?

Like I said before they did not bother me last time I went when I had my mini tripod

I just called Top of The Rock and they will get back to me be regarding tripods.
Personally, I wouldn't carry one around all day in crowds, as it will be more of a pain in the butt than it's worth. Though if you expect to be drinking lots of coffee and can't do without one I hope to have an answer for you shortly.

I'm thinking that if you want to buy tickets ahead of time... 7PM is a good time to shoot for. Any objections? Or should we say 7. |

just a few hours to go...
I'll be easy to spot...wearing nothing but a pink thong, white clogs and a vintage 1950's red football helmut. Same thing I wore at the last gtg but this time I'll also be sporting a Nikon D200. Yeah...baby!!! |
