I'm new to the DSLR world and I just bought the Tamron 28-75 and I was wondering what some of the crap means on the box. It reads
SP AF28-75mm F/2.8 XR DI LD Aspherical (IF) Macro
What is SP, XR, DI, LD Aspherical and Macro mean? Why does it say Macro? I thought I had to buy seperate macro lenses. Just trying to figure all this out. Thank you. |

Lens acronyms for Canon, Tamron, Sigma
As for the "macro" part, your Tamron is capable of photographing down to 1:2, half life-size. That's "near macro"; true macro is 1:1 or better. I actually use my Tamron for most of my closeups, not my Canon 60mm true macro lens.

;) I don't know what it all means either, but I love my Tamron!

I hope this doesn't kill the thread, but here's a link to Tamron's website that shows what the abbreviations mean. I've had that 28-75 lens for about 1 1/2 years now and love it!

| I think all those abbreviations are just meant to impress the heck out of you. The more abbreviations, the better the lens. Right?!? :-) |
