Thanks for the beer and congrats! :)
How I'm doing it? I'll list some steps...
1. Get a dog from the shelter that's afraid of everything, even his own shadow. Make sure he's one that will literally run, full speed, away from everything remotely intimidating - requiring you to run after him.
2. Spend 3 months exposing that dog to everything you can, to teach him that he doesn't need to be afraid of everything. This includes 2-4 walks per day, dog parks, and regular visits to every store that allows dogs.
3. When that dog is starting to become well-adjusted and happy, decide that he should have a buddy, and go find the most hyper puppy you can. Adopt him, and spend 7 months running after him like a deranged lunatic.
4. During all of this, get way more interested in photography and get a fabulous camera. Attempt to visit every site with any sort of attractive feature, even if it's several miles away from any sort of parking area.
5. Have your significant other join a local (men-only) history group, and since you can't join, agree (or at least somehow manage) to become the person who videotapes and photographs *every* event - forcing you to run around the crowds, climbing on/ducking under things in order to get good shots.
6. In the middle of all this, realize you're too damn fat to accomplish all of it, and start cutting back on portion sizes. Actually start eating breakfast, and occasionally insert something green and leafy into your evening meal.
In all seriousness, it was a combination of all of these things. I slowly cut back on my portion sizes and limited myself to sweets once or twice a week rather than once or twice a day. :)
For those who've spent a large amount of time extremely overweight (I've been overweight since around 6th grade), you can probably appreciate this:
I am wearing a pair of shorts that are a size I haven't worn since well before my son was born... and I can shop now in the "regular" size section. =^D I haven't been able to shop in the regular section since 9th grade. :) |
