Hello everyone,
I recently bought the Rebel XT and now I am looking to create a decent lens library. I have the 18-55mm that came with it and the EF 50mm f/1.8 II on the way.
I am by no means wealthy, so my limit on what I can spend on a lens is about $300-400 at the most and it'll likely take me time to save up for each lens. I would also like to purchase lenses that I can use with both the XT and my film Rebel - though the digital definitely has the upperhand if a choice must be made.
That all in mind, what would you consider to be some "must have" lenses to have a complete and useful lens library?
I am extremely interested in b/w, architecture and landscape photography, which I'm sure will affect what lenses I should get. All told I am also looking to get the most bang for my buck, so any lenses that are extremely versatile would be great.
Much thanks in advance as the array of lenses available can be pretty overwhelming and confusing.
- Sia

Which end of the 18-55 are you finding yourself using more? This might help with your next lens choice.

Lately mostly the 55mm end of things, in an attempt to compensate for not having a macro lens.
I know I need some kind of zoom too for my nature stuff that'll I'll be getting into more once we settle into the partly-sunny with light rain mode rather than the partly-cloudy/rain turning into showers weather we currently have.

Well, since you already have an acceptible wide-angle zoom you might want to look at something in the 70-200(or 300)mm zoom range with some macro capability.
Sigma 70-300 - Decent lens, nice zoom and macro. Good price, but not the "fastest" lens in the world.

Tamron 17-35 f2.8-4. Maybe wide enough for landscape and architecture on the XT, definately so on a film camra. It's just over $400, but it's a great lens for the price.
