FYI- I noticed that beachcamera.com has factory refurbished Nikon D50 bodies for $399. A D50 with kit lens is $479. That's cheaper than many mid-range point and shoot cameras.

Yeah but they should give away the bodies cause you end up spending a fortune on lenses, flashes, on and on :-)

There is a reason a cadillac or mercedes is not cheap and a chevy is. Perhaps it's the same with cameras? LOL

I'm sure that that's exactly what marketing people want you, the consumer to think: it's a lot easier to sell you anything if you are buying a name, rather than features.

Yeah, some like the old man's ride, and some love our Corvette's. High performance all the way.

I think we all know that if a great golfer uses the cheapest pair of clubs, he/she stil beats every average golfer who has taylor mades and callaways ...
It's not the equipment.
The difference between Nikon and Canon is spelling :0

...and taste. A brilliant statement though. :-)

i think the OP's original point is that if one is willing to look around and can do without having something brand-new out of the box, they could probably get into a dSLR if they wanted to...
03/30/2006 09:28:56 PM · #13
I think so too.

I paid $1100 for the Nikon CoolPix 8700. I paid $300 for the Canon 300D and $90 for the 50mm f/1.8 lens.

$1100 = P&S
$389 = dSLR

No wonder I had been walking funny.

Edit to add: Another 0 after 30 ... whoops!

Hmm...does that mean the membership fee is going up $1 this year?

*lol*

I just want my 20D to work and for me to quit shipping it back to Canon every couple of months. That Nikon is almost tempting me....

*blast it all*

And that mean's I'd have to recoup all my lenses too. *growl*

I wouldn't trade my Cadillac STS for a Corvette. It's the perfect blend of performance, comfort, and style.

(Got the right quote this time)

Depends on the model ofcourse, but some taste kind of rubbery, while others have more of a metallic taste. Either way, niehter is fine cuisine.
