We have a really neat Wells fargo bank here in Marquette, Michigan. It was built in 1927 and is very ornate inside with gold trim, fancy carvings, and a neat old style vault. Well, while waiting for my ex to finish up the final closing of our joint account I got looking at it and thinking how I would love to photograph it all. Too bad I did not have my 20D with me (with the nice Bigma lens) - all I had was my camera phone. Oh well - I decided to shoot pics using that. It didn't ake but three shots for the bank manager to come running over and ask me what the hell I was up to. LOL

Guess taking pics in a bank these days is a big no-no.

yeah well, I have the 20D in the truck - wait until morning when I do a re-visit to the bank, followed by a trip to the fancy courthouse we have here too. ;-P

Anyone got bail money?

If it was me, I'd have donned my ski mask, pulled out my sawed-off shotgun and mac-10 and I would order the manager and everyone into the vault and I would lock them in there until I finished taking pictures of the pretty objects.

...but that's just me- I'm a little high strung.

20 years ago, I probably went inside a bank 3 or more times a month. In the past 10 years at least, I have set foot in a bank maybe six times.

Another related, but just as useless factoid: If I had invested all the ATM surcharges I have incurred in the last ten years in Microsoft, I would be a very rich man. Almost rich enough to purchase two cups of Starbucks every day for the rest of this year. TWO CUPS!!

Good thing you weren't trying for candid portraits there. I can see it now, "Um, well... I just wanted to shoot a few people I know at the bank. Is that illegal? Just let me get a few clean head shots with the 50mm and I'll be on my way. I can shoot you too, if you like."

"Everybody be cool, this is a photoshoot! Any sudden movements will result in motion blur!"

Ah, you PEOPLE! I have probably photographed 75-100 banks all told. They were a staple of my business for some damned reason. Them and restaurants...

What was particularly amusing was the hoops we had to go through when the client wanted a VAULT picture :-)

But I distinctly do remember once telling a guard to "move there... no, THERE!.. a little more please..." In a vintage B of A and having him smilingly follow all my instructions uncomplainingly. The sheer POWER of it... One did wish one had a weapon to finish the job, as it were...
