elsapo's image Enchanted Falls has been locked from further comments thanks to the stupidity and petty jealousy shown by some people here you all should be ashamed of yourselves.
When someone wins a ribbon and has been determined by the admin that they abided by the rules why go and graffiti his image with your lame cry baby attitude, save it for the forums, those comments will stay with that ribbon winning shot forever.

I totally agree. I think it's very poor taste to leave negative comments like that on the photo itself. I had one on my mesa arch shot that was out of line, but the SC didn't seem to have a problem with it. Guess you have to be 17 to get any response...

Do you want your shot locked from comments, too? |

Hell no, I just wanted one crazy comment removed. ;o)
But really, it's one thing to rant in a thread that will be forgotten over time, it's another to put the comments on the actual photo that will be seen everytime the photo is viewed.

We should be able to post whatever we want as long as it is not "threats".
I say again, I had many very good shots of the night sky taken between 6 and 10 seconds. I could not get a shot with only 2 seconds. I adhered to the "exactly 2 second" theme and did not submit.
If someone chooses to enter a shot that flys in the face of the challenge, then we should be able to post how we feel about it. |

I was just wondering if it is possible for some of those comments to be removed. It seems awfully sad that the poor kid should have to look at all that nonsense. If it is deemed that he complied with the rules, then so be it. Why should those comments about him being a cheat have to stay there?

While I admit I haven't read all the comments on the shot, I'm wondering why it would be inappropriate to make mention of an issue with how the shot was taken on the image itself? Is that not part of commentary? Meeting the challenge is often something that comes up in comments on submitted shots so why exactly should that be squelched simply because the shot itself is pretty or because it won the highest prize?
Please do note that I didn't enter in the challenge or even vote in it so charges of pettiness or jealousy wouldn't be valid. I'm simply curious. I can fully understand rude comments not being welcome but the DNMC aspect is surely a valid issue to bring up - both in the forums and on the image comments itsself.
Maybe its just me, but the vocal outcry on such a blatant disregard of the direction given (regardless of whether it broke rules or not) is probably best preserved on the shot. Maybe others will see it and decide its better to keep the details of the challenge in mind when out shooting for the image - most especially when said details include something that is as black & white as a specific shutter speed to use. There is no grey area there as there are with many of the details given for a challenge, thus that (2 second exposure) should have been the one thing that, in my opinion, should not have been disregarded.
Though I did include my opinion on the matter, I'm definitely not trying to start a new thread about that image's situation specifically, merely inquiring as to why it would be considered wrong and more importantly determined to be petty and jealousy-ridden to include such in commentary about the image.
Seems valid to me.

Remove the comments? Why. Why can't we post what we feel?
Anyway...I'm done with it. I'll just use the power of my vote. I will STRICTLY vote on the "challenge theme" first and then on the photo.
If the challenge is "brick" I will vote very low on anything that is not a brick. Even if the non-brick is the greatest looking photo in the world. I will then vote on the bricks.
That's it...I'm done commenting on this subject.

Not all feelings are constructive.
This isn't politics, it's a wholly owned website. Private property. The site admins and SC (at their behest) can do whatever they want with the comments.
Now, what the repercussions on site attendance and business are, who knows. I doubt many would care enough to leave for something as stupid as this has become.
When your accountant finds a loophole in the tax code that gets you a $1000 refund instead of a $1000 payout, do you start questioning his honor?

Please, can we get this situation behind us?
The image was locked for commenting because Justin asked us to try and stop the arguments from happening on his image.
I think everyone understands what happened and why it happened. We're coming up with something so that it won't happen again. It seems that no good can come from this continuous public discussion. |
