I am just curious and couldn´t find any thread with this subject so if there is one, please lock this thread SC.
Why wasn´t there a new member challenge during the rollover after the voting started on Deja Vu II? Was that challenge just a one time experiment or did everybody just forget to make a new one? |

That hasn't necessarily been ruled out. It just hasn't been started yet. :) |

I like the idea of having one "topical member challenge" and on "technical member challenge".
Blue, Water, Skies, Nude, etc.
High Key, Sepia, Duotone, Tripych, f/4, etc |

Doesn't make any sense from the point of view of availability to the masses to remove an open challenge in favor of a member challenge.
This is a learning site for all. It has been stated in the past that it was originally intended to be free. There is nothing gained by elitism from charging an entry fee. There are a number of people who would not have joined though and that's something that could be counted a loss.
I for one would not have joined (probably not a huge losss....). Because of living in a different country from my native (which doesn't sit well with internet credit card purchases), as well as general distrust of the 'net, I never touch any website that requires me to pay before getting involved.
D&L's dedication to making this site as good as they can to the general public is one of the biggest reasons I come here.
Members can already enjoy one of the open challenges and the members challenge. So it's not really worthwhile to go crazy.
Originally, the open challenges were split because the number of submissions was just getting crazy. Member challenges are already much less affected by this.
Occasional special challenges spice things up, but I personally feel that there's already plenty to choose from. |

No open challenges are being removed as far as I know.
D&L are still as committed as day one that the services/benefits/etc that were free in the beginning will still be free.
Instead, an extra challenge (in some form or fashion) is being considered as an extra value for those who choose to pay. How is that a bad or negative thing, or elite? |

I don't believe anyone's suggested that option.
Also, that challenge was kind-of an extra challenge thrown in because some people couldn't enter the "2-Second" challenge because of equipment limitations.

| Well, since the purpose of splitting the Open Challenge into two was to reduce the number of entries, I don't think it will be eliminated. |
