I've found that if I take the time to think about and set up a shot, it scores low and/or doesn't really come out as something great. If I go out and take random pictures, I can usually find some that will fit the theme or challenge I'm looking for. It's pretty frustrating spending hours working on a shot, only to have it end up sub-par. Is it a technique thing, or an experience thing, I wonder?
I always have fun setting up shots and everything, but I feel like I'm either copying an idea that's previously been done, or that my idea doesn't have enough "oomph" to be something terrific. I don't just mean for challenge entries.. I mean just totally in-general.
Do you guys find it easier to come up with an idea, plan it out, and shoot it, or do your better images come from spontaneous shots? Where do you guys look for inspiration? |
