Sorry if this has been answered before but after falling in love with L glass following my purchase of the Canon 135mm F2 L USM I have decided to get another. Problem being I've read a few reviews saying the non-IS version of the 70-200mm 2.8 USM L is sharper than the IS version ? Budget isnt a factor, but obviously I dont want to shell out extra cash for a lense that isnt as sharp. Feedback from any owners appreciated.

The IS has a redesigned aperture resluting in slightly better bokeh. Add that with IS and it's worht the difference in price.

I've opted for the non-IS for this reason and because IS introduces another level of complexity. After having gone through three (3) 100-400L IS lenses due to IS repairs (error 99), I felt I didn't want to pay extra for such a possibility.

Even though the non-IS is sharper, you'll likely end up using a higher shutter speed to freeze wildlife/action shots. I've found IS will encourage slower speeds, which is sometimes desirable (more dynamic/less static).
