It was over 7 just a bit before :(

Awesome. I have only had a quick glance at the entries...and from what I have seen they are excellent. I hope to get to vote in a couple of days.

Thank you! So do I.

Sooo annoying. My photo is parody of an old ribbon and i wouldn t be suprised that the people who don't know the reference think i've done an illegal edit. I have submitted my proof for the pic so that people see i haven't cheated, but it hasn't been reviewed yet! Arg, the frustration. the shot took me 8 hours! it would be nice if it did a little better than what it's at now.

Bottom line: don't vote low because you think its cheating until it has been confirmed! hehe

Man...am I in for the Brown?
This is a little lower than I expected - but what can you do.

you won't brown ;}
i'm doing worse than i had hoped but not really bad
5.8x

and it's not a bad shot - not an exact replica of the original - but similar enough i think.

Do you think that is part of the reason for some low scores - that the original wasn't duplicated, but interpreted?
I interpreted the original - and didn't overly try to replicate it, and I have a gut feeling I'm getting dinged for it.
03/25/2006 05:18:53 PM · #211
that and some folks might not recognize the older ribboners.
i see quite a few very recent replications in the list for this challenge.

though if that's the case i am being doubly dissed...

To a certain extent I would probably say that interpretation isn't going to be looked at the same as imitation or parody. Or at least a more dedicated vision to either imitation or parody may allow for a higher vote. Surely a challenging challenge to vote and I would say that my criteria in score probably changed depending on what I was looking at.

I don't think so.
Although I think it probably helps the score if the original is easily recognizeable (mine isn't).

Actually, I tend to prefer the interpretations over the replicas - but that's just my own preference. There's something beautiful about taking a concept and trying to go one step further. But probably not as popular.

[blush]

I see you're on Team 20D - he, he, what can I say ....

ADDED: I get the bad feeling that all this bragging is going to bite me in the posterior one of these days.

The average vote in the last Deja Vu Challenge was very close to 6. I expect this one will be as well.

I never thought I'd have a 5.9 and be *below* average! But I don't mind one bit. Mine is not from a recent challenge and will pretty much have to be taken on it's own merit, I think, so I'm really rather pleased.

Much agreed. Most of the benefit from participating here is to learn from others. Doing a Deja Vu is an excellent way to learn. I had hoped to improve on my effort but lighting and otherwise was less than cooperative. Still ended up with a pretty good image, I think. Personally I am judging almost entirely on the quality of the image by itself. This is about your photography skills, not ability to mimic IMHO.

Just received a string of votes in the 2 and 3 range.
Oh well. I had fun in the challenge and that is what really counts.

Sure wish I could get more comments. I'm getting comments at about the same rate I do when I score in my normal low 5's. Is that telling something about where the overall scoring is on this challenge? Will a 6.25 get into the top 50%?

My own personal challenge at this point is to win the competition of the images that paid tribute to the same ribbon winner. I've seen about 3 or 4 others so far.

EDIT - I just noticed a piece of paper on my desk. Last night around this time, I wrote down my score: 101 votes, 6.2475. Hmmm...you think I have a 6.2475-6.2480 image going here?
