My understanding of low key is a mostly dark (black) photo with subtle lighting on the subject to show the shape or a few details. This is not what I am finding as I am voting, so I was just wondering if my thinking is incorrect. I know these types of threads have been frowned on lately but I would hate to vote on a challenge and be looking for the wrong thing.

SC--if you feel this is inappropriate you may remove it!

I agree, most of the shots I have seen are under-exposed, not low-key, and I vote them down accordingly as they do not meet the challenge. No doubt we will have the usual crowd saying (If its a good photo then it shouldnt be voted down just for not meeting the challenge), to which I say "B*ll*cks!", if thats the case we may as well do away with challenges and just have an "Open Study" challenge every week.

Elaine it is not inappropriate but there is already a discussion going on in this thread about the low key challenge so I'd like to direct this discussion back there okay?

Perhaps the best approach for you would be to vote according to what YOU feel is low key. Your opinion is as valid as any... :)
