Me too and I am one... Sheesh Information Technologies in the corporate work place is so boring and un-challenging... Me and my fellow IT guy go around and shoot pics...

From Today: He took this with his Minolta 7D w/Minolta 100mm 2.0

I like this one because of the slacker tee shirt, green hat and slightly blurred wall of shame behind me, all seem to fit somehow.

Note to corporate workers:

IT doesn't have enough to do please,

1) Open all e-mail attachemnts, especially those with .exe extensions.
2) Visit websites at random and DO click on pop-ups
3) Delete files from System folders

Thank you,
Management.

Ah yes but you forgot, we are the preventors of information and productivity...filter this, don't allow that...keep an eye on you know who...etc etc etc...

unless you can access that little private network (oops did I say that) you won't be downloading a whole lot of that... :)

Don't forget us IT gals ... I'm one of them .. my favorite thing to do when bored at work is remotely access someone's pc .. mess with the mouse while they are trying to work .. then wait for the panic stricken face to arrive at my office door saying "there is something freaky going on with my computer and I don't know what to do!!!"

Its even more fun if you go ahead and pop the cd drive out a few times. They go crazy over that. Most assume some type of ghostly activity at play!

Another fun one is to change the sound of the incoming email notification to the windows bootup theme .. freaks them out .. they think (for what ever reason)their computer is shutting down! *snicker*

Or how bout that one (little resident program) that flips their screen upside down... totally tons of fun... can't exit it unless you know the key combo to stop it. I'll see if I can find that one around here some where.

In all reality I have found that users don't need a whole lot of help getting themselves into the weirdest situations...

I get so bored that when someone leaves their desk I:

-Take a screen shot of their desktop with no windows open.
-Open that screen shot in paint and then save it and set it as the desktop background.
-Hide all desktop icons
-Unlock task bar and drag it down to nothing.

Suddenly everything looks the same but you can't click on anything! Sometimes not even IT guys can figure this one out.

I HATE, I say again I absolutely HATE dealing with IT at my company.

If anyone ever has the brilliant idea to outsource your IT, shoot them. It'll save you time. Even after the prison sentence, you'll lose less of your life to that than on perma-hold with helpdesk in Kalamazoo/India.

Rofl.

Remap their keyboards. Worse yet, switch default input language to Chinese.

A friend of mine got a nice scare recently when he got this email (paraphrased from memory)

To: #######
From: root@nsa.gov
Subject: Notification

Six months have passed since we began monitoring your computer. We now have a complete profile. We have all the information we need to put together our case.

Canadian Federal Officers will arrive at your house tomorrow at 14.00 hours to escort you to the airport where you will be extradited for your crimes against the American Nation.

You are charged with crimes under sections 537.2 and 312.9 of the 2004 amendment of the Homeland Security Act.

Do not attempt to evade the Officers as they have been notified that you are extremely dangerous. They understand that in order to avoid an International incident, they will have to shoot to kill.

Signed,
National Security Agency

Aka Uncle Bob!

Of course, he included his nephew's complete information with his name and address. This is a pretty easy forgery as the Mailer Daemon is easily tricked with spoofed addresses.

I want to shoot the IT guy who convinced management to change the IT support line recording to tell employees to go to the itsupport intranet site to open a trouble ticket for having your network logon reset when you forgot your password.

I would if I COULD LOG ON to the dam thing.

as an added bonus we need our machine ID for the ticket so the IT guy knows which PC to remote into and you can only get that when logged on so going to your co-workers cube to use their PC to open a ticket does no good.

also I know you IT guys have online gaming sessions with other IT guys/gals. thats why it takes me 45 minutes to download a 5mb file.

If they get the brilliant idea to outsource IT at my company I'm retiring early!! *big grin* But they won't .. unfortunately I know way more than I should and they can't do it without me .. which is why, when I have quit (twice now), they keep calling me back .. maybe it's the games I play with their heads, they miss me because I'm not overly serious with them!! I have fun, I goof off, and I get the job done ... did I mention I know it all and no one else has a clue?? ;)

Jab. Online gaming doesn't have nearly the bandwidth you think it does.

In a company with 100 employees, they might have 5-10 IT support guys (or less). Even if they were all gaming, current intranet ethernet protocols are substantial enough that there is any way you would experience that level of slowdown.

5mb downloads are FAR more likely the be caused by the other end's slow transfer rates.

If I were you, I'd go talk to those IT guys and ask them why it takes so long. Ask them if they experience such slowdown and ask them to do a sample download (or traceroute) to check to see where your information is bottlenecking.

If it is in your machine, they can fix it or you can request an upgrade. If it is on the network, they should get on top of upgrading to a faster network.

My little laptop bought nearly a year ago has a port for 1Gigabit ethernet. Shouldn't be any reason that your local machine has any sort of slowdown that would lead to a 45 minute DL of a 5mb file.

It's probably in a router on the net.

If this is a 5mb file from the company's server within the intranet, then your IT guys should be publicly flogged with wet strands of Al Dente Spaghetti!

I only play online poker with a bunch of strangers .. does that count as hogging bandwith?? *snicker*
