I decided to google "define: pornography" ΓΆ€” this was the most amusing return:
"Pornography is an album by The Cure. Dark and angry, it is considered by many of The Cure's fans to be their greatest album. It was the last album released before they split near the end of the subsequent tour, and then reformed as a just a two-piece (Robert Smith and Laurence Tolhurst) a year later to release the eccentric pop single Let's Go To Bed. "
IN general, "pornography" seems to be defined as "work intended to arouse sexual desire". It's hard to find a definitive distinction between "erotica" and "pornography". Back in the day, when I was much younger, I did some "erotica" using female friends of mine as models (their idea) and with my wife (also a photographer) involved in the shooting.
Subsequently, we were approached several times by publishers of what we considered "pornography" to shoot for them. We turned them all down.
Where do you draw the line? That's intensely personal. I have no answer for that, except to say that any work that concentrates on genitals in a state of arousal is clearly pornography, to me.
Do I "condemn" pornography? No. I just don't care for it. It doesn't turn me on. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth, so to speak :-) I don't presume to judge for others. Let each person draw their own line.
If there's an absolute line to be drawn, in my mind, it's this; erotic photography of minors is a Really Bad Thing.

Nothing wrong with porn, I like it too, however, the comparrison of porn and photography is what I thought this thread was about. If your a porn photographer, your just a "picture taker." |

Doesnt make you anyless if that is you. BUt think about it, do you think the people at Hustler taking pictures are doing things to take better pictures? They the the peeps get it on, and they have at it with the camera. More tastefull magazines, Playboy and Penthouse, my opinion those photographers work hard to get the shots. The type of photos in Hustler, and porn like that on the net, in my opinion, its someone who just happens to be there with a camera catching people getting on. Didn't mean to offend you Fotoman. I have seen your work on here, it is tastefull I think. Unless I havent seen all of it. LOL |

Sorry, I knida over-reacted, but yes, I do do some work in porn and most of my income comes from personal boudior. Persoanlly, I don't put any less effort in shooting porn (that is WHEN I shoot it).
I'd agree that Penthouse and Playboy have some of the world's Top-notch photographers, but those at Hustler aren't shabby.
You're right, there is some bad photography at some porn sites, but some does stick out as a cut above.

Oh well... nothing here to worry about. I won't work with subjects under 21, eventhough 18 is legal.
BTW, I find this funny! In the state of Alabama, you can pose for porn legally at 18, but you have to be 21 to buy or view it. Now that is hilarious.
"Sorry sweetie, I know you just posed, but legally I can't show you the proofs."

I agree totally with Robert's sentiments. But would like to add a few thoughts that this thread has brought to mind.
You don't have to be a good photographer to make money shooting porn. There is so much demand that even the lesser quality stuff shows up on the internet, some of it just downright crappy, the level of cell phone shots or worse. But someone is making money off that stuff.
Looking at pictures of males, and especially pictures of people engaged in the act, are a turn off to me. The idea of shooting others engaged in sex, even done tastefully, for money or for free, seems to require that the photographer be a bit of a voyeur. What's available on the internet says there is a lot of that out there (really I should say out here among us), but it's not my cup of tea.
I enjoy looking at pictures of the female form. Naked or clothed it is one of nature's most nearly perfect works.
As always, just my two cents.
