OK folks, since the smartest of the smart are at this community, I figure someone here will know the answer...
I'm looking for a sweet, adult remote control off-road vehicle...
I stopped at toys r us thinking maybe things have come a long way since I was younger...I picked up a truck, charged it up, and it barely goes up a hill...I'm looking for something that if it can't go up a hill, it's going to just sit there and spin tire...something with massive power.
I'm thinking somewhere around $100'ish, not sure how much more expensive, but toss me a link if you know of anything...
thanks.

| If you have ever seen the movie "American Beauty", Kevin Spacey was playing with a remote control jeep. I have the exact same model he was playing with in the movie, big 4X4 jeep. I even hooked our red wagon up to it, and pulled my daughter and cat at the same time around with that jeep. We moved and I lost the remote, its useless now! Goto a hobby store, or look on ebay. |

I'd also check Radio Shack, Fry's/Buy.com, CompUSA; Sharper Image will probably go over $200 ...
You can probably get some interesting shots if you strap your camera to it and set it on timer (and maybe burst mode), or use a(nother) remote if you have one.

Aerial photography via remote control helicopter -- now you're talking! I wonder who they've sold more units to, paparazzi or the CIA ...

| My husband and son covet the enormous -- like three feet long or something -- $300-ish R/C military tank at Wal-mart. :) Not only is that WAY out of our price range (if we're going to spend that much money in one place it's going to be either food-, astronomy-, firearm-, or photography-related, lol), but also, we've absolutely NO place to put it. |

I have a few r/c cars myself, and they are fun! $100 is pretty limiting, considering a decent radio will cost you more than that. There's a HUGE difference in the Walmart/ToysRUs r/c cars than ones at Hobby People and Tower Hobbies. The nitro trucks REALLY haul ass, but they are a few hundred dollars, just for the truck.
Check into Ebay, people are getting rid of their electric cars after upgrading to nitro. I once got somebody's tricked out RC-10 electric kit that goes about 25-30 mph with everything including radio, charger, gear bag, extra batteries, TONS of spare parts, etc for about $120. Ya, it was used and not the newest/best thing out there, but a blast for 120 bucks. Plus, I didn't have to put it together and it was ready to go. It had a lived in look, but still I think that's better than getting something really shiny that won't go anywhere. Parts on the true hobby r/c cars (not Tyco, etc), are usually easily changed so if something breaks you can fix it yourself for pretty cheap.

Is that the same RC-10 which played such an important supporting role in Toy Story? |

My mom recently bought 2 gas powered 10th scale trucks at a yard sale for $20!!! She was buying them for my boys to play with. She really had no idea they really aren't suited for them at all. They came with everything including radios and starters.
I have 2 electrics from a few years ago, a truck and buggy(won a state championship). I prefer the electrics but the gas are pure power and speed.

Come to think of it, that little car in the movie did look kind of like it. Maybe the modeled it after a real RC-10.

| His name was RC in the movie ... pretty much all the toys except Buzz and Woody were modelled after "real" toys -- kind of the ultimate in product placement. |
