I have a Canon 350D and I am thinking about some point upgrading to either a 5D or 30D.
If you were in the same predicament which Body would you choose and what would sway your decision ! ! !

Cheers.

I've not owned any of these cams but would think the 30D wouldn't be enough of an upgrade to warrant the extra pennies? If I were you and were making this choice I'd say 5D hands down ;)oh, the full frame is the biggy in this choice.

I believe there's a huge difference between the XT and 30D based on what I've read.

Also, isn't the 5D like $3000, and the $30D only $1400? I don't know if money is an object with you, but that's always something to think about. My brother just bought the Nikon D2X for I want to say around $3500. AFTER he placed his order, he started reading reviews on the Nikon D200. Now he's saying he wishes he'd gone with the D200 over the D2X based on what he's read about it.

Unless you need something specific to the 5D, like the extra resolution, I'd go with the 30D. Full frame only matters for wide angle, and a 30D + 10-22mm lens costs much less than a 5D body.

I tend to agree with Ecce that the XT and 30D are too close to call it an upgrade. Granted, it's more of an upgrade than going from 20D to 30D, but I think the main thing you are buying is a longer burst rate, which is great for sports.

On the other hand, the 5D has a lot of "new" technology to offer, from full frame sensor, to better focusing, to larger LCD, etc.

But... if you *are* looking at shooting sports, then the 5D is at once too much camera (full frame, lots of pixels) and too little camera (too slow for the money), so go back and look at the 20D or 30D, or else extend your sights to the Mark II with its 8.5 frames per second.

I think the 30D is quite a significant upgrade from the 350D: bigger LCD, less noise, faster burst rate, spot meter, better grip, ISO3200, faster focusing... there are some big differences between the two. On the other hand, the 5D buys you more MP, a full frame sensor, and not much else- at the expense of a spot meter, a slower burst rate, less telephoto reach, and double the price.
