Hello everyone,
Went to Jupiter Inlet to scope out our South East FLA GTG and got a shot of this guy. The sky was yucky and I didn't have a tripod. I think it's a bit underexposed; and I'm not sure I've gotten the hang of setting my white balance. That being said; does anyone see hope for this image? Be honest.
Here's what the original looks like
And here's what I tried to do
Any suggestions on making it pop? (original file emailed upon request)
Thanks,
Roxanne |

I'll take that on; e-mail's on profile. I need something to do while waiting for rollover...

I was bored. The sky on my version is looking a little funky. I think it is a nice shot and I thought your editing was fine :)

Here is mine...
+Levels
+Curves
+Increased Saturation on Beak and Yellow Feathers
+Increased Saturation and adjusted Hue on the eye
+Dodged and Burned feathers and cement
+duplicated background layer > 9 pixel gaussian blur blended to soft light
+created a mask to remove the blend from the bird while leaving the effect on the background.

This is great! Y'all are doing things so much differently than I would. Would you mind sharing your steps so that I can give it a try?
Thanks!

My 2 minute attempt:
* Duplicate Layer
* Gausian Blue 30
* Layer Mode Multiply
* Adjust Fill %
* Hue/Saturation Colorize
* Dodge/Burn
* Levels

Very simple adjustments, curves and high pass filter.

Jupiter Inlet is exactly where I got these two pelican shots:
Funny I think. I probably know exactly where you were too. Enjoy the get together!

nevermind...
I like some of the edits...I can see why you want to see different versions Roxanne, great photo, just a little dark and needs tweaking. Good composition though.

WOW, WOW, WOW! You guys have definitely proven that my PS needs a lot of work. I can't believe I took that photo after seeing what's been done to it. Thanks again.
yakatme...I'm working on the preview. Putting together a pros & cons presentation and uploading a few snapshots of the area. I should have it done this morning.
Cheers,
Roxanne |

I tried processing a pelican once, but couldn't get the fishy taste out of the dark meat. :) |
