Dumb question I know but what type of filter is a warming filter? Isee it used alot in waterfall shots and water shots. What is it and when is the best time to use it?
Thanks

Good filter to use for portraits when overcast. ND filter is used to take a long exposure without blowing out highlights.

"Warming Filter" is a carryover from film days, used to remove bluish tint from overcast lighting or high-altitude lighting, or when shooting in open shade. It's not especially useful in the digital world, where Auto White Balance does the work for you. It may help a little when you're on Daylight WB and have areas of open shade, but it warms everything, not just the shade. Some film people use them for portraits in daylight also, to give a warmer cast to the skin.
Robt.
