I'll be watching the Sharks against the Avalanche tonight at the Tank. Question is, can I bring my gear? I guess if I don't use my flash I should be ok. Anyone brought their camera to a pro hockey game?
Do they have limitations in lens lengths? Thanks for any advice ;) |

Think it depends on the Venue... I know you can't get a camera close to the IP One Center or what ever its called now (was the Sports Arena) for a hockey game here in San Diego.

I googled "Camera to Sharks Game" and this is what I got:
Camera and Audio/Video Recorders: The use of still cameras (film or digital) and video & audio recorders is regulated by the promoter of each event. In many cases, the camera policy is not finalized until the day of the event and is subject to change. In most cases for concerts, all cameras are prohibited. Still cameras (film or digital) are permitted for Sharks games, as long as the lens length does not exceed six inches in length so as not to block other guest̢۪s views. Video cameras are rarely permitted. When cameras are prohibited, guests are encouraged to take them back to their car or check them in at the entrances.

that's what I've mostly seen too, as long as your lens isn't too big (yes size does matter here lol) then your ok. Luckily my p&s causes no problems and I still got useable (for my wife's scrapbooking) images at a concert by shooting the screens they had up (as seen here //www.sabphotography.com THIRD DAY ROCKS!). You can tell in the 4th one (of me photographing my daughter) just how far we were from the stage.

They will probably refuse a large white "L" lense.

Well I measured my lens and without the filters, hood, and the rear lens cap, mounted on the camera, it's about 6.5 inches long. I'll try and go for it ;) |

Good luck getting it in, although I'm guessing they'll probably say no...
Besides, F/4 probably isn't fast enough for indoor sports anyway, unless they have really hardcore lighting |
