I've heard about people shooting and having the image go directly into a computer via usb or something. Ideally I would like to do this with something like a epson multi-media viewer or maybe my powerbook. (I shoot with a rebel xt). Please advise.

If you have a video-out port on your camera you might be able to plug that in -- anything shown on the lcd will then be displayed on the TV/etc. That's how it works for my D70 anyway.

As for having the image files themselves be stored on a computer instead of the memory card, that requires additional software (at least). I can't speak for Canon's 350D, but Nikon's NikonCapture allows the images to be stored to the computer as well as all controlling all camera controls from there as well.

It sounds like you're describing EOS Capture software, where the shot is sent directly to computer via USB link instead of the memory card.

Your camera may have come with everything you need to do this.

with my 350d (rebel) I'm able to use the USB cable and the canon remote software to shoot straight to PC, bypassess the CF card and appears on screen straightaway!!
Its great but sometimes feels very slow as it takes longer to transfer.
