Think I'll give this one a shot:

Doubt I can do it justice, but I'll sure try.

QUESTION: Can we use "text" in a shot if we are trying to emulate the Album cover, postcard or other such challenges? Or will we get DQ'd.

Guess that means we can only "pay tribute to [certain] winning images", but not all. Hmmm....bummer.

i think the trick here is to photograph a highly visible image. However, the problem is, it needs to do it justice as well.

I am torn between 2 different images right now. I'm sure that there are going to be a ton of attempts on the one I want to do which is why I think I should look for something else! :/

ps. Anybody gonna attempt the impossible and try to re-create "Fantasia"?

This is fun. I have been going back through the archive. I've gotten as far back as Dec. '03. One thing I have noticed, though. The quality has increased and the scores have decreased. Some images from way back that scored high 6's low 7's would probably only get mid 6's now. I've made myself a list of a few I'd like to try, but I have one or two in mind that I think I could do that would help my average score (since Literary Adventure & Pick Two are killing it).

This is pleasent surprise, as there was at least one recent ribbon winner that I was hoping to try to emulate soon. The time is now.

^ It's funny you say that because I was looking at the past challenges as well and the 19th highest rated picture of all time would barely even break a 5.5 now (if that).

It was the first deja vu that convinced me to get my Rebel...this could be expensive LOL

But to redo that is really out this time of year...

has a woody image every won a ribbon?

It would certainly be interesting to emulate that and enter it to see how it does. My guess would be "not well" (no offense to the photo or photographer). Who wants to try it?

If the winning image you emulate cloned out its wires, strings or background without being dq'd, will your deja vu entry be grandfathered?

Man this is gonna be tough. I know there are going to be duplicates. But I have it narrowed down to 2. This challenge ROCKS!

I haven't been on this site long, but this look slike a blast. I still need to go through all the past challenges, but I think I have it narrowed down to one. Hopefully not a bunch of people have a similar idea, and if they do maybe I can just do it better. Ultimately I don't have a clue what I am doing - but I am having fun trying. This is gonna be fun.

I tried hokie's Painting with Light II winner. Well done hokie, I just want to know how you controlled the light so well.

Now time to find something else to attempt to emulate, 'cause that sure didn't work........

Okay, I've tried two more. A little better, but nowhere close to the originals. I now have an even GREATER appreciation for the skill of the original winners. This is hard.

"Pay tribute to a previous ribbon-winning image, either by imitation or parody"

I am planning to participate in this challenge. Right now I am thinking of imitation, but looking at my current photography skills, it may end up as parody - Ha Ha.

I tried once and already humiliated Jacko - . I could not come anywhere near, but too bad could not even spell Jacko name correct. Let's see who is the victim this time, I will at least make sure tht I don't mis-spell the name

So... I posted several times to this thread last night, thinking it was a Challenge Suggestion and tonight I see the Challenge on the front page. So I lost a whole day of research & planning. Of course that never affects my efforts as long as that one day isn't the LAST day. ;-)

Last time you couldn't use your own ribbon winning shot........wonder if anyone re-shoots their own shot.

I'd have been tempted if my "Summer's End ΓΆ€” Sunrise" hadn't gotten the time/date DQ from its ribbon, 'cuz this is the official end of winter right now and I could do a completely different-colored variation called "Winter's End ΓΆ€” Sunrise" and the idea appeals, but nah....
