Thank you, Linda.
This one was a free-for-all, but the loser (ME) will now be required to shoot the next challenge shot however Rikki tells me to. Its all up to him! Ugh! lol

My shot
Rikki's shot

If that's a serious question, I have a serious response. Want to hear it?

Actually, I just sent you a PM telling you to get off your duff and give the poor gal a full week to meet your onerous demands. And yes, PM the details to Cindi and to me. If you have doubts about the "fairness", PM me first if you wish.
As for my analysis, let's see if CINDI wants to hear it...

I don't know where Bear is, but I know that if you could've gotten Joey Lawrence into a wetsuit, you would've won for sure! |

Right here. I was talking to someone on AIM.
Rikki's shot had the virtue of being a "perfect square"; the squareness of the crop was integral to the success of the image. That he succeeded in "squaring the circle" is an added bonus; mathematicians have been trying to do this foever :-) His warm, inviting colors and his lumninous scene are very appealing to voters. The relatively high score is no surprise.
Cindi's shot, on the other hand, has one major compositional strike against it: it is divided vertically into two halves, and the right half has absolutely nothing of interest in it. One looks at this image and wonders why it is cropped as a square; it seems to be "forced".
I believe she'd have scored signficiantly better had she managed to make it a diagonal. I don't know how much she cropped out, so I don't know how much leeway she had, but I have taken the entry and rotated it and mangled it in PS to make a diagonal-square composition. Exactly why the edges got so jangled up I don't know, but I didn't want to go back and figure it out so I just made a low-res version for proof-of-concept. Take a look:
Does this not seem more naturally square, and somewhat more vibrant compositionally? It's far from perfect, but I think an approach like this would have scored somewhat better. There's also a somewhat "heavy" feeling to her colors that is fighting then ense of "leap" in the image by weighting it down.

Thanks for the good review, Robert! :) I totally agree about the crop, I went with mine because I'm a big fan of negative space - but yours looks more balanced and natural. I also agree about the dark colors, I really wish the guy had been wearing yellow or red!
You are probably 100% correct, but I'm still going to secretly believe the "Rikki cheated" theory heheee

I paid Pug-H to leave all those comments and stack the votes :P
edit to add: I am still bewildered by the fact that I received an average vote 4 from non-camera users. I mean WTF? LOL!

There are very few non-camera users in the paid ranks. May have only been a single score, and that a 4. Don't sweat it.
