Allright...I got DQed. My second highest rated submission "soulless" is not more a contributor to my portfolio. I guess, the reason is that I used (did I?) glow filter or atleast I mentioned using it though I'm not too sure if I actually did! I was surely experimenting it but I'm really not sure if I used it. Anyway, no hard feelings... but I think the photo deserves some attention so posting it here for comments (or maybe even debate :))
Anyway, even if I used the filter, I think it was bad choice as I could have lived without it and have got "almost" same results without it. Bad choice (again- if I used it!).
Btw, this was 4'th highest in challenge.

It's not readily apparent that you used a glow filter. Get a lawyer and retract your confession. ;-)
Great image regardless. |

That sucks. Sorry about the DQ. Word of advice, when experimenting, keep notes ;-)

That will teach you for listing your editing steps...

Point taken. And it's better to keep the steps of editing minimal...atleast in writing :) |

It did. But is there any way of "auto-recording" of steps in photoshop (after photo is saved and history is gone)? I earlier used Picasa and it was simple to find out steps from .ini file or simple by "undo"/"redo" stuff.

Press Ctrl/K to bring up the preferences and click on the history log and all your moves will be saved with the file. |

I would imagine you must have used it to some small degree as just stating you did doesn't automatically get you DQ'd.
I had posted an image recently and while typing in the steps I noticed that I couldn't clone stuff like I did so I went back and fixed my image but forgot to change the details of my submission. SC requested the original (I also do a screen shot of the history before I exit and submitted that also) and questioned the details and when I explained what happened all was good.
They must have been able to tell a difference from the orignal they requested. Shame, it's a well done image.

Pressed CtrlK and got the preferences box but could not locate "history log" anywhere. I use PS7. Help. |

Ah okay, I am using CS2, it wasn't available in version 7 as far as I remember. |

failing to give us your steps so we can replicate is also a reason photos have been DQ'd if we can't replicate your results! Just a word to the wise. And to the OP (Tejinder) if you find out that you DID NOT use this filter through what kiwi suggested, then let us know!)

Frisca I really dont know if I used the filter or not. I edited the picture using PICASA first and used the glow filter (and even grain) in it. I did not liked the results so I post-processed it again in PS. I "think" I was able to get my results by clipping shadows in "levels" but I honestly cannot recall if I did used the filter in PS or not.
And in PS7, as kiwi also pointed out, I could not find any option (atleast for now, for this already postprocessed photo) which can let me know what steps I took. What comes to my mind is as following -
Cropped
Adjusted Levels
White point adjustment (in levels)
NeatImage (+sharpening in neatImage itself)
Anyway,I tried these steps again and was able to get "almost" same results as my final submission ... but as I myself said - "almost" :(. But that could simply be because I might have not changed the values same as those for submission.
Is there any other way, for me, to validate my own claim? Let me know. Its almost 1:30am here, in India, but I'm willing to stay awake if it helps :) |

i can guarantee nothing, and it looks like you're in a tough spot. but tell us and show us all you know about it via a ticket (look in the "contact us" link in the help menu above) and we'll review it.

Anyway, just processed it again (in PICASA). Did three simple things -
Cropped
Increased Highlight
Increased Shadow (just a little bit)
and here is almost the same result
As suggested, I'm also opening ticket in help.
Anyway, my intention was not to get into this loop but to get some attention to my highest scoring picture. But offcourse- I dont might anything better coming my way :)
Wish me luck! |

2:00am. Dozing off. Lets see what the morning brings :)
Anyway, 45 profile views in one hour is what I have already got from this thread :) Who's complaining?! |

Got the final (I guess) response -
"In both the Photographer's details section and the editing steps submitted when you uploaded your original, you stated that you used the glow filter. This filter is not legal in basic editing which is why your photo was disqualified."
Now is the chance for DPCers to pay tribute to my DQed submission by leaving a comment :)
Over and Out.
