ok so i checked the images and here's a question. The Blue mentioned dodging and burning in Classic Editing????

This would not take much work at all to be a true, color low-key image; just a little curves adjustment.

I just realized this low-key is basic editing; now, that's a challenge! On the plus side, it'll hide all the dust spots :-)

Robert,
I followed your suggestion... would this be considered low key or does it need to be adjusted more. I'd like to enter this challenge...not sure if i've ever intentionally taken a low-key pic but i'm ready to try.

AFter looking through the pics on the link provided by kiwiness, it appears that most people interpret low key as BW or duotone.
03/16/2006 03:28:41 AM · #36
BW because it provides the most shades of midtones and shadows which i think are key to a successful low key image ;)

Makes sense. I think i'll work on low key the next few days b/c this looks like a fun challenge.

The good news is i'm headed to *(&(^&(^ for 4 days so i'll have lots of time to take pictures. The bad news is i wont get home until monday night and i'll have to scramble to get something in by tues:(

I love low key images, JJ has some fantastic examples in his port.

The last time I entered one here it wasn't well received.

Uhm, ok, is this an SC announcement? If so, could you please edit the description of the challenge itself with the little yellow flag thingy? I would feel more comfortable if this was for sure.

Everyone can quit shooting Low Key, I produced the winner today. No cheese, no PB, no nudity, just clear, crisp beauty with only resizing in PS.

They're referring back to the earlier "Black on Black" challenge under the old "classic editing" rules, eschelar. THAT one had a rules rider attached to it; this one doesn't.

Thanks for the clarification.

Good thing I checked before shooting...

Discipline required.
