if you want to use your sb600 to trigger your flash
use the sync connector on the flash
that will trigger the flash at the same time at the main flash & not the preflashes (ok no direct experiance with d70 & sb600 but it works with d200 & sb800)

if you are using a light trigger slow down to 1/60th (some are really slow - the once it is obivious it is firing raise the shutter speed till you get half frame (dark/light) this will tell you how fast you can shoot at ... (my AB400 is REALLY slow when using the light trig, but shoots up to speed with thesync cable attached ..)

look into the iTTL system using your d70 as a commander .. it is quite cool ...

Ahhh ... an oldie but a goodie.

Exposure when using a flash can ONLY be controlled with the Aperture. It can't be controlled by shutter speed. (There are of course extreme exceptions, but this is the rule 99.99% of the time).

The reason? The shortest typical flashgun duration of 1/30,000 of a sec is way faster than any shutter settings. If you have an adjustable gun you might get that slow (low power = short duration) but otherwise not.

I took some more shots today. I was messing around at f/11, 1/200th and one strobe at 1/4 with a gold reflector held by my model. I got the shot to come out. I think i need to work on getting the right skin tone to show now. I'm sure with 10 minutes of practice every two days will pay off eventually.
