I found this lens for sale
Tokina Nikon ATX Autofocus 300MM F4
I can't find any info or reviews on it. All I find is the 100-300 or the 300mm 2.8 but nothing on the 300mm f4.
I think I can get it for less that the 1.4 nikon teleconverter and its in a mint state and I assume that its very much like the Nikon.
Any info would be very helpful.

googling a bit...
77mm filter, autofocus.
back in a moment...
check here only 5 revews, but they rate it very favorably.
sample shots
underTokina, third one down
For the right price, get it. It's a prime so those are generally pretty durable and good optically.
I got a tamron 70-210 2.8 back in december and I too had a heck of a time finding any info on it. it's good, but i think it's lack of popularity made it less costly for me!

Thanks! Yeah that̢۪s about as much as I found. I did, over on the DPreview site, find a little more and some Images that looked good.
I was just thinking if I could get the 300 f4 instead of getting the 1.4 Nikon TC. (This would make my 80-200 2.8 a 300 f4)
I know the TC is lighter but its more expensive than the Tokina and with the Tokina there would be no loss of sharpness or fall off.
Just a thought. Like I need another lens! |

My bet is if the Nikon TC is more money than the Tokina 300 F4 then the Tokina will not produce any better a picture than the Nikon 80-200 F2.8 w/ 1.4TC. As a matter of fact the Nikon combo probalby produces better quality and gives you more options.
Only a guess as I have never seen the Tokina 300.

Yeah I don̢۪t think I am going to get it! Just not enough info on it.
Looks good but you raise some practical points.
I am sure if I look long enough I can find a deal on a AF-D 300mm 2.8 or even the Nikon 300mm f4.
Thanks Again! |

No problem. BTW - I should recieve the Nikon TC-17E II 1.7x Teleconverter tomorrow. I bought it specifically to use with the Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR so I'll try and remeber to post how it works out.
