I have some pictures of people I have taken in my studio for money. They did not sign a release. My question is two parts: Can I use them in my portfolio and my site? Can I use them when I advertise like on Craigslist or a newspaper?

Technically, you only need a model release if you are selling the images. To use them in your portfolio or website is perfectly acceptable unless the model specifically asks you not to (witness protection program or something). Before I used a model's shots in a large public setting, like for ads, I would contact them and let them know first, but that's just courtesy.
