I knew the 5D had good noise reduction, but wow, i was out playing around tonight and i shot this at ISO 3200, even at full size, the noise is not very visable, to us as photographers yes, but to the untrained eye not really, check out the image below,

Wow.
I hope my 30D will be that good ;)

My rebel varies - sometimes the noise is not noticeable, sometimes it jumps out at me like a sore thumb. I have not figured this out enough to know what to watch out for. Color? light type? hot sensor?

ISO400 and below is fine. 800 and 1600 iffy at times, bad on enlargements. It's the at times that bothers me.

How does a 100% crop of the black sky look? Got any shots of faces fairly close up?

Awesome image Troy.

I, too, am really impressed witht he 5D's capabilites, especially with noise.

This image was just a muck around image taken in my front yard with street lights and houselights right over the camera. Admittedly it was using ISO 100, but with a 3.5 aperture and 14.68 minutes shutter.

30D uses same sensor as 20D. Noise/high ISO performance of 20D is an order of magnitude better than that of 300D. You'll be very happy.

nice. but what lense was used ? i can see pretty hard vignetting especially in lower left corner (of course coz it's the brightest part, silly me) :-)

i used my Canon 24-70 2.8, i had my hood on, thats probably why there is vignetting,

Noise reduction is indeed amazing...even with the full pixels it does look great !

I would not think a hood made for the lens would cause vignetting. More likely it is because of the FF sensor using the entire lens.
