My entry in the square crop challenge was a bit too much digital artish, so I received widely varying comments, which was what I expected and liked a lot. But, for those who wondered why 'the last part of the picture didn't load' (never thought of that), I'll gladly explain why I couldn't crop the picture otherwise. Here's the original:
I played with levels so the windows of the building were not visible anymore and tried a few square crops:
and
But I liked the horizontal one best:
And turned it red to resemble a sunrise (actual entry):
After reading people's comments about the black border, I tried this:
(put a gradient in it)
However, I still like my entry better with the black border. I would really like to hear other people's opinions on the choices I made! |

I gave you a 10 and made you a favorite, so I guess I liked the choices you made! Putting a gradient in is just taking a step back from a decision you made to be abstract/painterly.
you see, it's not a picture of clouds.
it's not a picture of a roof.
it's a picture of nothing, and there are few things more glorious, if you can really capture it.

Your right they are a wide variance in the comments!
I love when people post their originals and show what they did. I find it very informative thanks :-)
Btw a great photo! |

A nice sequence, Noud! Reversing the image horizontally was masterful and made the result a better composition. I think that a thinner silhouette of the building and more sky would have been an improvement, but not too shabby as is. |

Just left you this comment under the picture:
I like the colours, light, and the unorthodox placement of the clouds alongside the frame's edges, with empty sky filling most of the frame. I don't like the horizontal black band in the bottom, I think that the image would be much better with it cut off (I realize that it won't be fit for this challenge then), and I don't think it adds anything to this shot. |

Ditto.
The black, IMO, was necessary to support the claim of the title - an apt title at that. |

I gave this one a 9. I didn't know own you did the black bottom, but I had a feeling that it was not done digitally, I somehow knew that it was part of the picture and , this, made me love the picture even more. |
