Ok, so I just cleaned a nasty virus from my system and I'm pretty sure it's gone, but there is one really odd thing that happened after I rebooted clean this last time.

For some strange reason, my taskbar at the bottom of the screen has doubled active windows.

For example, if I have a window open for C:\ (just as an example), the taskbar shows this in two different areas.

Because both are being treated as a "main area", which bears no name, they cannot be closed. I have closed every singly taskbar that I have and the problem persists.

I have unlocked the taskbar and tried moving them about, but this just increases the size of the taskbar and that's just plain dumb.

I don't know how it occurred, or how to properly describe it, and I certainly don't know how to fix it.

Any gurus out there know anything about this?

I seem to recall that this has happened before to me, but I was able to fiddle and it went away. A reboot might have helped on earlier occasions too. Not this time.

It's exasperating in the extreme.

I haven't seen this particular problem before, but I have a cool little program (shareware) that fixes a bunch of different taskbar problems. It is called Taskbar Repair Tool Plus. If you google it, I'm sure you can find it for download. That's what I did.

Thanks very much.

This app did not directly address this issue, but I found a spot that said there was a fix for when the minimized apps things goes missing.

I figured that it might reset things back to normal and it did!

5 seconds later it's all better.

YAY!

Now all I have to do is find a way to keep the bubble notifications for everything other than the Tablet button activations.... (I have them mapped for shift, alt and control for stylus only usage in photoshop)

But that's another story altogether. For now, I'm happy again!

Trend Micro finally gave me a thumbs up and my system appears normal! Happy!
