First, you have to know I live in Montreal, Canada where we presently have lots of snow on the ground. The weather was so cold lately but since a couple of days it has been warmer so it's melting. I was "desperate" to find a picture to meet the "despair" challenge. I went in town and started to look for "desperate" persons. Found no one, to my own "despair"... I decided to go to a huge cemetary on top of Mount Royal. It's so huge you get to drive in it. I was driving around and looking "desperately" for something to shoot at. I saw a small hill and try to drive up. Got jammed in the middle. Backed up but hit a huge branch, deviated, hit the delimitating stone posts of a thumbstone and got stuck there...to my own "despair". Tried to remove the snow with a branch but, again, to my own "despair". In fact, I was hooked being the stone post. Can you imagine my "despair" at dawn in a cemetary, stuck in the snow??? I thought this was ironic! I should have taken a picture of me and my car in the cemetary but I was too scared to have broken my car, the thumbstone and be stuck there for the whole night!!! Of course, the security gard came to my rescue but we had to call a towing to take me out of there...This whole thing cost me over 2 hours...
I'm not sure I will submit something in this challenge...!!

Well, I thought of taking the shot but honestly I was so embarrassed so I couldn't dare tell the guys who helped me what I was doing there and take the shot!!!
If you get a shot of despair somewhere in Montreal, let me know where!!

Nathalie - go to Le Faubourg on Ste-Catherine W - there are beggars outside all the time - scruffy looking guys always!! Just don't talk to them (they take that as a hint to follow you down the street) - buy a coffee and muffin as their payment for the photo!!
I used to live right across the street!!

I found a few beggars in town yesterday and gave them a little money and asked if I could take a photo of them. So while I took photos of them all they did is smile. Some despair! |

I thought this would be a difficult subject. But it took me less that 10 minutes to capture the image I submitted for the challenge, though I did take many others.
It is a sad commentary on human nature that it is easy to find examples of abject despair almost everywhere you look.
It is depressing.

Actually I wanted to submit a globe with a Pepsi bottle on one side and a Coke can on the other and spin the globe...but I couldn't get it setup and WORKING with my work schedule...It IS a difficult topic, though. I would have shot the cemetary shot - why not? (easy to say from the comforts of home, I know) |

Well Photography is all about the art of capturing what's already there! If you easily shot a great picture with such a topic, well Congrats! you have talent!
P.S. The cemetary shot would have been good if I would have been on the picture shoveling with my piece of branch....! ah well....
