Just wondering if this goes on anywhere else... on Thursdays, at 7:30 pm, a group of cyclists roll out of a local bike store parking lot and ride all through downtown San Antonio. Every age, ability, bike type... it's a blast!
I haven't taken my camera yet, but maybe will once the time changes and it stays light later. |

Sounds cool. Do you just ride on the road or do actual urban assault/street riding (at least those that aren't on road bikes)?
Sounds like something the cops wouldn't like too much, too.. not that it matters |

They do that in San Francisco....its called Critical Mass. I'd say usually they have at very leat 100 people on bikes taking over the city streets. Normally there is also a bike that is customized to carry a big woofer and stereo to blast music.
They actually also have another group that roller blades in big packs as well down all these steep hills in SF. |

| The MTB guys do stairs and curbs on occasion. And the cops are pretty good about it as long as we obey the rules. I've heard they were giving out tickets a while ago for running red lights - at $200 a pop! And there is one guy who has a trailer with a cooler decked out with a stereo system. Tourists seem to get a kick out of it. :-) |

I gotta tell ya, riding downtown in a semi-major city at night is simply the most fun you can have legally. Except for those times when we do, uh, run a light or two, which is illegal. (Yes, we do make sure there are no cars coming first, but don't do that, kids. Really. It's bad.)
Pretty good crowd tonight - past month or so it's averaged 30-40 people - tonight was double that. At the height of summer, when it's light late, we'll get over 100 sometimes.
Some very fun things from tonight's ride. We rode along a VERY quiet section of the Riverwalk at one point - no hotels, no restaurants, no lights, and thankfully no pedestrians. On that section, you have to ride single file, and hope you don't miss a turn or you'll be very wet. On the way back, in a half mile or so stretch, the temp dropped about 8 degrees F. Finally, you can just begin to get the hint of night-blooming jasmine - not quite out yet, but will be soon!
It's not a long ride - only about 14 miles or so - but it's ever so enjoyable!
And now, with no further interruption, I return you to your regularly scheduled photography discussions. (Just one more thing - if you don't have a bike, consider getting one. They're downright magical at times!)

I would love to see some pics.
Sounds like you guys have a blast, and San Antonio is just beautiful. |
