How can you tell if a person has multiple accounts and keep voting on his pics as 10s?
I have a theory, YOU CAN'T! eBay has the same problem. You can keep bidding on your own stuff to keep the prices high. What do they do? They ban the account and the email address used to register that account.

I would argue that they're not just cheating themselves... they're cheating everyone who participates in a challenge.

We do try to keep the playing field as level as possible. That means we have to be very diligeent in reviewing reports of multiple accounts. We do take it seriously, because we feel the anonymity of the voting process is a very important differentiator for DPC.

Persons suspected of owning multiple accounts are tied up and made to look at cheesy pictures of Leroy while water drops fall on their head until they confess.

As Alan said, IF they catch it happening then they deal with it.
For the record, I have an account and so does my wife. We share one computer that is behind a linksys router along with my kids computer and a laptop which is used for business. We both vote using this single computer. All would appear to be coming from my public IP address of my cable modem. So even if my wife decided to just use one PC and me another it would still appear to be coming from a single IP. Unless DPC is / could register the MAC address of the NIC coming from separate user accounts I don't see how blocking multiple accounts from a single IP would work. (not sure if that made any sense)
Anyway,
Her account is a registered account and I have a member account. She mostly uses her account to vote on challenges. She has participated in two challenges to date and is happy to just vote and let me get beat up in the challenges. ;-P She has voted on most of my entries those votes are her own and are legitimate as she votes on at least 20% of each challenge. So I really don't understand what the big deal is. Do you really thing someone would sit down, create X number of free accounts, then have to vote on a challenge up to 20% with said number of X accounts? If so they have some serious issues to workout.

I don't disagree that this is most likely not a problem for the most part, but I am not going to be so naive as to think your last few sentences is out of the ordinary. It is AMAZING what people will do to win ribbons, prizes, crowns, sashes, etc. Being in pageants for a very long time until recently as a director, I can tell you that people will go to quite some lengths to "win", no matter what that win is and at any expense. To us the win would be meaningless, but to them, it fills some kind of void in their lives, which is quite sad. However, to say that one shouldn't think this occurs is really naive. How prevelant this is at DPC is not something I could possibly know, but I am sure it occurs. It is up to SC to work on that, and I am sure they are on top of it as much as possible.

Well Rose then I guess I'm naive. No wait, I just really don't care to give it extra thought if people are willing to cheat themselves into a ribbon. If it's happening I have full faith in D&L / SC to take care of the problem. If someone is willing to cheat their way to a ribbon what did they really win? Attention if you ask me which would be their downfall I would imagine.
In the end are we not all here to improve our talents, grow from one another and expand our knowledge in photography? IMHO that's the real prize from being associated with this site. I would say this is an interesting topic but nothing to seriously worry about.
Love,
Nald
