Well they got me. Stole my D70 and entire bag of lenses and accessories out of my car last night. Got me for about $2,000 - could be worse I guess. I guess homeowners insurance will cover it but still got a $1,000 deductible. Funny thing is I had two P&S cameras in the back seat floorboard still in the boxes that I had purchased the day before for work. They were even in a large Wolf Camera bag. I hate a thief. |

If you scheduled your photo equipment separately on your homeowner's policy there is no deductible. If not, claiming it may not be worth it as you may get your policy canceled.

That really sucks! Make sure to follow up with all of the local pawn shops. |

Sorry to hear about that. Lousy luck. Do you have serial numbers and such to perhaps check around at local pawn shops? |

Pawn shops would be a good choice. Also, make sure to file a police report, if you haven't already. It will make retrieving them items easier if you do find them.

Even worse than a thief, is a discriminating thief with good taste. |

Yup. That sucks but unless you have a real catastorphy, I dont think its worth claiming. I would not do it, but I live on the Gulf Coast where they look for any reason to dump you. |

I have rentor's insurance which would cover all of my camera gear+ if it were stolen and I believe the deductable to be $150-200range. I think the total policy altogether comes out to about $90/yr. sorry you got ripped off bro. |

You can if you can prove its yours but you have to see it and call the cops right then and there. (Posession of stolen property) I see where a pawn shop when confronted has actually taken the stuff out the back door and hidden the stuff before the cops get there. If you find it hang on to it and call the cops. (might be different in the states)
edit to add: Things like this are why judge judy has a job. ;)

I just added a rider to my home owners policy for my camera equipment a couple of weeks ago. It cost me $72/year to insure the $4700 worth of equipment I have. Everything from the lens right down to the UV filters. No deductible.

On the bright side, it's never been easier to make the switch to Canon. :-) A little gallows humor, there...
I'm really sorry for your loss, Jeff. I hope you either find or replace your camera soon so you don't have to rely too long on those P&S's. Good luck!

check on ebay as well,
we had £90k ($150k) worth of Dewalt stuff stolen from work a few months ago and we found quite a bit on ebay.
Sorry to hear of your loss, it's bad enough when i leave mine at home when I go out, must be real awful not having it at all.
Is your policy New for Old?, You might be able to upgrade your system.

Why on earth would you leave it in your car?? I wouldn't even leave a couple of coins in my car or a packet of ciggys as it would give the incentive to break in. |

I was wondering the same thing, though I am sure it doesn't help much when people ask this. Hind sight is always 20/20. Sorry about the bad turn. Hope you get everything replaced. |

your home owners insurance covers that? I thought it would be out of your car insurance...well I guess unless you don't have that coverage on it...just wondering for future knowledge if anyone can advise.

Man, that stinks!! I don't have a DSL, but whenever I leave mine in the car for whatever reason, I make sure there is something on top of it, or it's under something so it's not visible. I'm sure you're thinking that now, so not to rub salt in the wound, but maybe this'll serve as a lesson for others reading this.
I do hope you're able to retrieve some of your money back at least, so you can get another one. So sorry to hear about it.

YES!!! listen up everybody! get a rider on your insurance policy. If you are renting or owning it doesn't matter. It is REALLY, REALLY cheap to add your camera so there will be no deductible. It is covered if you drop it off a cliff or a guy breaks into your car.
GET INSURANCE!
