I know I ask for the wisemen's (and women's) opinion... but I want to do all I can to make these photos work and learn in the process.
What do you think about these?

I like the first and second the best. The third and fourth would be better if the color was fixed and if the pictures weren't so blurry. I don't know if that is coming from camera shake with a slow shutter, or if you added blur in post processing... but she looks like she has clear enough skin that you probably don't need to do any post processing on her. |

She told me she wanted the "dreamy" effect so I did add some gaus. blur to her.... without it, her face is VERY shiney. What do you think?

Try downloading the Glam Blur action from This PAge
If you are wanting a nice blur this one will do it for ya. Couple that with the high-key action and you should get the dreamy effect you are looking for.

Shannon has some very nice eyes and I think that we need to keep them as sharp as possible...
My pick would be 2 as that seems to be the sharpest, but the pose/crop of 3 and 4 are pretty nice.

Sarah, the background in 3 is pretty easy to mask and not get too close to the hair and then totally blur...
(done with Digital Image Pro)
Masked background to a layer and applied Gausian blur just until lines on curtain went away.
Brought up the levels.
Sharpened to bring the eyes back.
also burned eyeliner and eyebrows just a bit
Try something like that, it is a very nice shot.

She's a very pretty girl. I like the poses and lighting in them, but the soft focus seems a bit 'off focus' jmho.
fwiw, You may wish to rename the portfolio that these are in... portrait is spelled inkorektly. ;-)
Like your high contrast effects in the rest of your portfolio too.

Thanks so much guys... I try to stay away from "tweaking" my photos too much and thus I am rusty on PS. I mainly use the healing tool, clone stamp and a little desaturation if I'm doing coloring things but other than that.... you got me.
I appreciate all your help and comments.

as far as expression goes, I love 4! That photo just has a great feeling to it. I agree that coloring is off a bit (too yellow) white balance might have helped but YOu may be able to fix a little of it with a Selective color layer. And it is a little too soft. The eyes and face would be better sharper, if you used a blur layer you should be able to erase some of the blur on those parts and keep the softness to the rest of the photo if that's the look she was requesting.
I like one and two also. You black and white treatment is good on two, I might try to add a layer mask to brighten her face a little since it is a bit too shadowed for my taste. KevinRiggs' tutorial on layer masks would explain well how to do this. I like the muted colors in one and her eyes are amazing. But maybe a hint of a smile in either one would have made them that much better. But that's just my opinion. They are nice how they are as well, just a different mood is all.
