Dang, I was hoping to shoehorn this into literary quotes, but I couldn't find a good one from Alice in Wonderland. This is from the art deco/modern hotel Delano in Miami Beach. It was a challenge to get as I needed my 50mm at f/1.8 and ISO 1600 just to pull off a 1/30th handheld shot. Luckily it came out fairly clear.

I'm not sure Jenn really looks like Gulliver...

I was curious to see your Miami Beach shots when you got back. I had plans all weekend, otherwise I would have suggested that we meet out there.

Are you a baghead?

It would have been nice to meet ya. I fly out tomorrow anyway. Had fun with my new 24-105 although I will say you do miss 17-24 when you are used to having it. That being said, I think it's a very fair trade to have 51-105 in exchange.

I guess I am a baghead. I can't wait for the Florida GTG in April because I'm looking forward to meeting fellow DPC'ers. This past weekend, however, I did not know how my schedule was going to be. I regret not making some time to make contact with you.

Ha. :) I actually meant in a more literal way. I thought you may have recognized my square entry and left a comment, but didn't see one.

Great shot!

There are these huge rocking chairs all over downtown Charlotte NC. Next time we go see the inlaws I'm going down there with my daughter. She'll love me lol.

:) Yes, but it starts at the end of today.

I'm sorry if this sounds ignorant, but what the heck is Lent that you would need to give up photography for it?

I've read the Bible and I am pretty sure I must have been sleeping through parts of it if there was a spot where Jesus said to his followers: "and during the celebration of Lent, thou shalt not take photographs."

Huh?

Or is it an inside joke. Celebrating lent = I lent my camera to my mother in-law and she broke it... still waiting to get it back from the shop...

Lent is not mentioned in the Bible. It is tradition in Catholic and some older Protestant denominations. Traditionally it starts 40 days before Easter (not counting Sundays) and is a time of reflection and sacrifice to prepare one for that holiday.

Personally, my church does not practice Lent, but I have decided it would be a good idea for me. It isn't meant to "please God" but rather to alter the person (at least that's why I'm doing it). I gave up photography because it is a large part of my life.

People keep asking about it because officially Lent started last week. Because this is "my own" and because I had had a trip to Miami planned for a while, I am starting after today.

I understand better now.

Actually, I appreciate your view quite a bit better too. I also take time to reflect on the meaning of Christ's sacrifice on the Jewish calendar day of Nisan 14 and I view it as a special day too.

Nice to see someone who takes things personally rather than letting a church dictate these things.

I don't think God will hold the Miami trip against you :)
