Okay, I just gotta do this. My daughter is in town (she lives in Georgia, we live in Utah) and so this is the first I've seen of our new little grand daughter. She's just five and a half months old. And I just gotta show her off! :-)

Beautiful photos, what an adorable baby!!!

Can I ask - were you using a solid gray backdrop and what was your lighting setup for the top three photos?

Yup, she's our first. And we married off our second daughter just this past friday (she says "kids are a long ways off").

The background is actually black paper. I have a couple of muslins but went for the paper on this particular shoot because it is a deeper black.

Lighting consisted of 3 lights:

Key light at camera left, about 45 degrees to the subject, using a reflector.

Fill light back behind the camera shooting through a translucent umbrella.

And a hair light which I didn't do so well at adjusting, but I was more concerned about getting the pictures than getting the lights "just right". :-)

Beautiful grand daughter, I love those bunny ears! That first portrait with her reaching up to your chin is simply fantastic, a wonderful keepsake.

Beautiful! You have every right to be proud of such a lovely little granddaughter. Did you do the wedding photos of your other daughter?

I didn't... I hired another photographer to do the work since I expected I would be too busy to try to take pictures.

BUT.... after the group portraits were done, and while she was taking my daughter and her new husband around to get some couple shots, the photographer turned to me and said... I have another camera in my bag here, just like the one you use (a 20D) do you want to help?

DO I WANT TO HELP?!?!?!

Ohmygosh, I had so much fun! (of course, the ironic thing is that in the end, I will probably end up paying her for some of the shots I took, but that's okay, I had a blast)
