I just wanted to thank everyone for their suggestions in my other thread. You were all very helpful in deciding on a new lens. I wound up ordering a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8. I've only had it about an hour so haven't had much time to use it but I do have a couple test images that I thought I would share.
These are not very exciting but they are straight out of the camera - no color corrections, no sharpening. Just wanted to show anyone considering this lens how sharp it is.

Can't wait to really get out there with it.
Thanks again everyone!

Hey Congrats,
It's a nice lens, I have one too, only thing I'm not happy with it is the 28mm wide end as I wish for a 24mm so it's wider.
images look pretty sharp though

Congratulations on your new lens. I purchased the same one about a month ago and have not took it off my camera since.

Thanks, everyone!
yido: I was actually more worried that it wouldn't reach as far because my other lens went to 90mm (I hate changing lenses...lol) As far as the 28mm, I'm okay with that because that's what my other was and I also have a 12-24mm to get wider.

How sharp is it a 2.8?
I have the Sigma 18-50 2.8 and took shots at 2.8, 4 and 5.6 and 2.8 is a bit soft. I might move to this lens if it is sharp enough at 2.8

Sharp as a Tack... I'll see if I can find an untouched shot and post.
As mentioned below, this lens leaves the body very seldomly... only for the sister lens Tammy SP 17-35mm 2.8-4 or my 70-200mm 4L.
It's a great lens and can be picked up very reasonably if you shop around and use coupons...my mom picked it up for less than 300.00 on amazon after rebate and some amazon deals.

IMO, very sharp at f/2.8. Not quite as sharp as when stopped down a little, but still very sharp. From what I've seen of sample pics, sharper at 2.8 than the Sigma you are using. It's not quite as sharp as my Canon 60mm f/2.8 macro at f/2.8 (or any other aperture for that matter), but what zoom lens is?

The above images were ISO 400. f/4.0 at 1/125 for the cat and f/6.7 at 1/90 for the scissor.
I just took these real quick at f/2.8, ISO 100, with flash and handheld.

A better test would probably be with a tripod, though.
edit: Again, no color corrections or sharpening applied.
