Well I did it, the ultimate in cliches, I dropped my d70 in the river today.

yea... for anyone who is curious, NOT WATER RESISTANT.

Fortunately I do have ESP on it so I can get it fixed / replaced. Kit lens so it's covered too.

Just thought I'd remove the doubt from the few remaining member's minds that don't know it yet - I am an idiot ;)

Your not an idiot, it happens. That strap thing is there for a reason though. :)

Anytime I am even close to water, strap in over my neck. Unless I fall in its not getting wet.

So sorry to here about your loss.

Well a few weeks back I posted a thread about hiking with my camera and asked about ideas for bags. Finally I came up with a front pack system that top loads like a holster so as I'm hiking I can just flip the top, pull out the camera and shoot - then pop it back in the bag quick and easy. Well we were doing a nice easy geocache along a river trail when my kids saw some nice shells and rocks down a slightly steep embankment. I took a few pictures figuring the kids would enjoy them. My son got a shell and then of course my daughter had to have one too. Seeing that she would likely end up in the river I climbed down to get it for her. Low and behold in the commotion of it all I didn't buckle the strap on the belly holster so as soon as I leaned forward out rolled my camera. D'OH!

Dont' worry, it's only a camera. It can be replaced.
Now I hear good things about the D200.
=)

Well the ESP paid off for me this time. Ritz gave me a brand new D70S today. Yes, that is an added "S" for me - I only had a d70 before! Woohoo! Bonus!

Didn't cost me anything either (other than the initial ESP). I'm happy :)
