I googled ShutterPug just to see if anyone out there had the same user name or a web site by that name. Seems I am the one and only ShutterPug...but I did find a site that has my Puppy Love image on it. They do give credit to me, and link to DPC. My problem is that the image is distorted looking on their site. It's not like I'm a pro or anything - far from it, but I dont think I need anyone helping my stuff looks like crap.
Please check it out and tell me what your thoughts are. Should I ask them to remove it, or just to make sure it is displayed properly? After all, they do give me credit and link to my DPC portfolio. It irks me that they did not even ask to post it there. Maybe I should just ask them to remove it. What do you think?

It's your image -- if you don't like how it is being used, ask them to remove it. There is no reason for justifications ('doesn't look right'), explainations or reasons. Your not liking it there is enough.
That said, the site seems harmless enough. Just an online community for 'word or mouth' advertisement of what others have made available. As long as they give credit and link to the original, I don't see any difference between this and my pulling a houseguest into the den to show them some pug love. :D

I looked at the link you supplied and I think you're in some elegant company being on that site. I'd say enjoy. |

Hey,Linda
Tried the same google search for "riponlady" and lo and behold, I found I am in the same boat as you - one of my pics appeared on that site! Not sure how I feel - pleased? annoyed?

They're not actually "using" your photo in the way you would think.
They're using StumbleUpon to share it with people with similar tastes. A bit tricky to explain, but StumbleUpon recommends websites to you based on what you, and other people, tell it you like and dislike.
All they have done is visit your DPC image page and hit the "I Like It" button in their toolbar. StumbleUpon does the rest.
It is because of StumbleUpon that Rackat has nearly 200,000 views!
So yeah, you're in good company : )

interesting context to find the image in...
dark angel, another dark angel, obsure picture of something even darker, and keeping in the continuity a cute picture of a couple of pugs. |

If I ever find one of my photos somewhere, I'll be pleased as punch.
Oh well, maybe someday, maybe not.

I dont mind them haivn it there with a link - heck their not trying to take credit, and they get me exposure. The part that bugged me was that the image is distorted on their site - makes it look really crappy. Guess if folks hit the link they'll see how it really looks. I'll just let it slide since they are nt trying to claim rights to it or make any cash off it. Just wish the distortion wasn't there.

Most people will see it when they hit their "Stumble" button. This will take them straight to the DPC page, so no distortion : )

now come on - how in the world did my Sins shot end up here when we're talking about the Puppy Love shot..... . The PUGS are the ones being posted on Stumble - not me.

I also have pics that have been picked up and posted on "StumbleUpon". They are not seling them and they do give credit on where they found it. No problem here unless I find out that there is a sales gimmick involved. After all DPC is 72 dpi at 640, not very good quality for prints. |

I just found one of Sherpet's Pictures on stumble upon.
This one, if you go to the next button at the bottom, has others such as kirbic, banmorn, pawdrix, jutilda, mine and a few others.

I have nothing against StumbleUpon, like I said earlier it's just word-of-mouth advertising -- but it does beg the question of does DPC allow direct linking to images. It would be a simple matter to only allow the image to load when being loaded on DPC, forcing any other site to send link to the image page instead of the image.

Currently DPC does not allow direct-linking to images, only to an image's photo page. |

the link from their site goes straight to my image page on DPC. It does not just take you to DPC. I haven't checked to see if any other images in my portfolio were showing up elsewhere on the web or not. Might be a fun project to do later this evening.

Apparently it is allowed.
Go to the page linked in the first post, scroll down to Linda's Puppy Love image, right-click to see the properties -- the image is directly linked from the DPC server to be displayed on the StumbleUpon website.
Like I said, I'm not opposed to it for this sort of thing, but I am suprised it is allowed.

It would be very hard to stop without at the same time preventing browsing by people who have their browser referral turned off...
