Hi!

I am trying to locate photography contests that I can inform our photo club about at our next and future meetings. I've had a bit of luck via Google, but if any of you know of some and wouldn't mind letting me (and everyone) know about them, that would be fantastic.

I found this one while searching online and I know there are some fantastic wildlife photographers here, so maybe some of you will find this useful.

You have to have your entries in by July 15th I believe.

It is for the National Wildlife Magazine and they have PRO, Amateur and Youth divisions and the categories are:

Mammals - Portraits and Behavior
Birds - Portraits and Behavior
Underwater Life - Portraits and Behavior
Other Wildlife - Portraits and Behavior (includes reptiles, amphibians, insects, spiders, etc.)
New Life - Baby animals of any species, portraits and behavior
Connecting People and Nature - People enjoying the outdoors in some way
Habitat - Landscapes and plant life from wild areas
Power of Nature/Climate Change - Extreme weather or its impacts (hurricanes, tornadoes, drought, lightning, floods, etc.) and signs of climate change

More detailed information can be found RIGHT HERE

Good luck to anyone who decides to enter. I do believe there is mention that the photo either becomes their property or they assume rights to use it for publication so be sure to read the rules carefully if you do enter.

Sounds good, it's a shame I can't enter since the photos must be taken from North America, Hawaii and U.S. territories, and their adjacent waters. I won't be over that way any time in the next few years :(

That is too bad!

I think the prizes for this are great, nothing extravagant - even for the grand prize (though $2,000 is nothing to sneeze at) - but one aspect of them really seems good to me:

1. Grand Prize Package, one (1): Total Value: $2,036.00
$2,000 - Cash prize
$25 - Winners Plaque
$11 - NWPA special publication
Plus guaranteed image display in NWPA exhibit at Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History

Display at the Smithsonian? Wow. I'd take that alone.

I entered that last year, and though I didn't place in the comp, they contacted me and offered to buy my bald eagle picture.

Its an amazing picture! Good to know that you don't necessarily have to win the contest to still "win" in other areas.

The way I read it zoo animals are fine. It says to specify whether the animal is captive or not. A game farm (I believe) refers to where they keep the animals to sell them to eat (or for fur, etc...).

If you are in Eastern PA (your profile says PA), you could always go here to get your wildlife fix.

WoW!!! Thanks! I am definately going to check that out! I live near Reading Pa (which is about 45minutes west of Philly).

I think I will round up some friends and head out there one day.

Might be a good GTG spot for NY, PA, NJ folks.

68 miles from the George Washington Bridge
90 miles from Philadelphia
25 miles from Pocono Ski Area
7 miles from Delaware Water Gap
