Well, actually they were safe and there was no crash. As is apparent from the lack of focus on the airplane on the rght, they have a safe lateral distance but make it look to the viewers on the airshow as if they are going to crash.
Couldn't resist posting this - it's not very sharp as it is a small crop but i still like it.
Same English team (flying Russian Yak's):
