While geocaching in La Grande, Oregon with my girlfriend, this little red bug decided to fly in and land on the ammo can we found. I took this picture as the little thing posed for me.
Does anyone know what type of insect this is?

Thanks hopper. There's the little guy.
I actually don't agree totally with kari1 or dsmeth... I like the little guy. The vibrant colour was cool to see and I loved that it visited with us.
I guess some bugs just don't bother me. Now spiders on the other hand...

Spiders?! I know this is a crummy photo, but just look how beautiful she is! :)

And it seems fitting that a soldier beetle would be on an ammo case.
